(Every week, NetworkWilliamsburg will highlight a different nonprofit organization and the wonderful work they do for our community.) ALPHA & OMEGA SPORTS -- where the focus is on building athletes from the inside out! Their mission is to utilize sports as a tool for promoting diversity while providing opportunities for spiritual, athletic, personal, social and academic growth. Enroll now for football camp coming up July 7-11 at Williamsburg Christian Academy from 8am-2pm for youth ages 6-14. The cost is $115 and includes a T-shirt, water bottle and certificate. Scholarships are available. There will also be a FREE football clinic at the Boys & Girls Club in Newport News on July 14th & 15th. As part of their service commitment, A&O will be going door to door in August in certain neighborhoods to give out school supplies. Hurricane Season is from June 1 to November 30. -- Are you ready? There are many precautions we can take to be better prepared, including purchasing supplies, making a family plan, knowing how to take care of pets, and reviewing evacuation procedures. Check out National Weather Service or the VA Dept. of Emergency Management for more valuable information. Also, check out the Event Net for information on Disaster Volunteer Day, to be held August 16 at Liberty Baptist Church.

A new report from the Meyer Foundation finds that young nonprofit staff are concerned that challenges such as work-life balance, insufficient lifelong earning potential, a lack of mentorship, and overwhelming fundraising responsibilities may prevent them from becoming nonprofit executives. The report also shows that 3 out of 4 executive directors planned to leave their jobs within the next 5 years, citing a lack of adequate compensation, burnout, and fear of not being able to retire properly.
To find ways YOU can help nonprofits in Williamsburg, click on Volunteer Net, Gift Net, or Talent Net to review the needs of area nonprofits. You can also help honor nonprofit workers by providing discounts, coupons, etc. to movies, restaurants, or special events in the community. To see the report in its entirety, Click Here
